With the shutdown entering its second month, several agencies and businesses in El Paso and Las Cruces are offering help and relief.

El Paso Electric: Workers can call El Paso Electric’s Customer Care at 915-543-5970 or 575-526-5555 to make payment arrangements. It is handled on a case-by-case basis.
Texas Gas Service: Customers can call 1-800-700-2443 to discuss deferred payments or flexible payment plans.
El Paso Water Utility: Customers can call 915-534-5500 to discuss deferred payments or flexible payment plans.
Las Cruces Utilities: is offering help to furloughed federal workers impacted by the shutdown. They say that all you have to do is provide them a copy of your federal government ID, name, address, account number and phone number.

Workforce Solutions Borderplex: 915-887-2600 or borderplexjobs.com for a list of employees hiring federal workers for a temporary basis.
YISD: The Ysleta Independent School District says government employees will have priority for substitute teacher jobs. To qualify, you must have 60 college credit hours and pass a criminal background check. You can apply online on the district’s website.
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger: 915-298-0353

Operation HOPE: Group will host a food giveaway at 10 a.m. Saturday at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Headquarter on Justice Dr.
Food City: $5 Shutdown package with five items for government employees. Federal workers can also get vouchers for discounts on food.
El Paso ISD, Socorro ISD, and Ysleta ISD: Families affected by the ongoing government shutdown may be eligible for free and reduced-priced school meals.
Las Cruces Dental Solutions: Hosting a barbecue and food drive to assist workers affected by the shutdown from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Las Cruces Dental Solutions offices on East Lohman Avenue. They are also offering any furloughed government employee or family member to schedule a free, limited dental exam.
The YMCA of El Paso is offering free family memberships to furloughed employees.
Dr. Richard Nevins is waiving co-pays for government workers as long as he accepts the insurance.
