Las Cruces Police have identified the motorcyclist killed Friday evening as Spencer Lance Meister, 25, of Las Cruces.
According to investigators, Meister was initially seen speeding by New Mexico State Police on Highway 70 just west of Alamogordo around 6 p.m. Friday.
A Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the motorcycle traveling at more than 100 miles per hour west on Highway 70 near Organ, NM a short while later. The deputy attempted to catch up with Meister, but lost sight of him as he entered the Las Cruces city limits.
Police say they were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash around 6:22 p.m. at the intersection of Engler Road and Jornada Road. Meister was identified as the driver of the 2007 Yamaha sport motorcycle involved in the crash.
According to traffic investigators, Meister ran the stop sign at the intersection and hit the front end of a 2015 Ford Explorer traveling south on Jornada. The 60-year-old driver of the Explorer and his 12-year-old passenger were not injured in the crash.
According to a spokesman with Holloman Air Force Base, Meister a U.S. Air Force Senior Airman, a 49th Maintenance group. Meister is originally from Atlanta, Georgia.
