It’s been a long wait, but the community says it was well worth it. Saturday’s grand re-opening of San Jacinto Plaza drew in huge crowds.
Sandra Cardenas is just one of the thousands of people who showed up to the grand re-opening of the plaza. “It looks beautiful. It’s great that they renovated it. I think it’s something that everyone has been looking forward to,” says Cardenas. “Anything new in El Paso is great, especially being a native, we want something new.”
For some people it even sparked a few memories. “It’s beautiful. It brings back incredible memories, just beautiful memories of when I was a child and I used to come downtown shopping with my mother and my two sisters,” says El Paso native Irma Salas.
On top of the dedication ceremony, the day was filled with games, delicious food, and musical entertainment.
“It’s beautiful with the games and all the chess games and the live entertainment,” says performer Georgina Armendariz.
And although the completion of the plaza was delayed on numerous occasions, El Pasoans say it was worth the wait.
“It’s really well done. I think more importantly the people are appreciating it. and that’s what matters. I show up here and everyone looks excited, everyone is having fun. I think that’s what matters most and it seems to be working it’s really cool,” Armando Meza says.
Many events are already planned at the plaza. For updates on those events you can visit the San Jacinto Facebook page.
