Funeral held for Cliff Tucker at Fort Bliss

The funeral  for former Chapin High School standout and University of Maryland basketball player Cliff Tucker was held Tuesday afternoon at the 1AD Chapel at Fort Bliss.

As KTSM has reported, he and other members of the Fort Bliss Knights were traveling back to El Paso from Lackland Air Force Base where they had just played in a military basketball tournament.

A tire blew out, causing the van they were in to flip. Tucker’s friend Andrew Akaji and his wife, Amanda, also died as a result of the crash.

Tucker’s family told KTSM on Tuesday that Tucker’s wife and daughter are still in the hospital with serious injuries.

“We’re leaving here and taking Cliff back to Maryland where our immediate family lives and so we’re going to do this all over again it’s like a double whammy,” said Tucker’s uncle, Derek Brown.

Tucker’s body will be taken to Maryland on Wednesday where he will be laid to rest.
