A local man signed with El Paso Locomotive FC following last month’s tryouts.
Louis “Chapa” Herrera earned a spot on the team after competing in two sets of tryouts. First, he impressed the staff during the Dec. 1 and 2 open tryouts and then he was invited to a more exclusive tryout on Dec. 8 and 9, according to a news release.
A few weeks later, the team brought him and his family in to offer him a contract.
“At 22, he has incredible room for growth and the opportunity to change the lives of him and his family. This is what dreams are made of. Last week he was working construction, today he signed a professional contract,” said Locomotive FC coach Mark Lowry. “I am honored to be part of this journey with Louis and everyone else in El Paso who aspires to be something special”
Herrera had previously impressed the coaching staff when he competed in the 2018 Alianza de Futbol tournament in El Paso.
He is the second El Pasoan on the team, behind former No. 1 MLS pick Omar Salgado.
