For the third year in a row, the Socorro Independent School District has earned Best Communities for Music Education Award from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation.
This prestigious award recognizes different school districts who provide access to all things music and ensures for all students to not only receive a well-rounded education but have an outlet to look forward to.
“You feel the rush of adrenaline and sometimes you’re nervous but once you’re out there you feel like you’re on top of the world it’s such an amazing feeling,” said Daisy Macias, a Band Member at Montwood Middle School.
Team SISD is the only district in the region and one of 623 honorees in the nation to be recognized as a leader in music education.
“I think it’s important to give students the outlet to be creative… not everybody is going to be gifted in all areas of education and this is where some of our students are going to be able to say this is me and be proud of it,” said Salina Cobos, the Director of Bands at Puentes Middle School.
