This is Heather Wilsons second visit on Thursday to El Paso since she was selected as the sole finalist to be the next UTEP President. She plans to meet with faculty and students, in hopes of hearing their ongoing concerns.
Wilsons plans to talk directly with students and faculty. However, some believe she should have planned to hold the meetings in the auditorium, so more students could go and get their voices heard.
On Wednesday, faculty and staff held a protest to show their concerns over Wilson. One student mentioned that she felt left out because the meetings were closed. Meaning she wouldn’t have a chance to speak with her.
“Not everyone that matters gets to talk to her, unfortunately, they have divided us as a body and I just don’t think that she did this the right way, even though she is taking a step and coming here and trying to be the bigger person about it,” said Hira Ali a UTEP student.
Many are hoping that Wilson will encompass everything that Dr. Natalicio put in place throughout her 30 years as UTEP President.
“Dr. Natalico spoke during the women’s history month conference, I had the fortune to be in the front row of that and it was really lovely. And she said it’s up to us the students and the faculty to hold our next President accountable to make sure that they follow through with sticking to UTEP’s 30-year mission,” said UTEP student Kaelin Walker.
