EPISD’s Young Women’s Academy accepting soon-to-be high school girls

Education

The El Paso Independent School District is expanding it’s Young Women’s Academy and it is looking for girls who will be ninth-graders during the 2019-2020 school year.

It will be the first class of freshman at the all girls school. The plan is to have those girls expand the high school through 12 grade. It’s a plan the district had since the middle school started up three years ago.

The academy provides girls with a project-based learning curriculum based on new tech. That means education is focused on science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.

Last year, we spoke with the school principal, Dr. Cynthia Ontiveros, about what the school’s focus is.

“I really wanted for our students, young women, to see themselves in these careers that are traditionally male dominated,” said Ontiveros.

The academy is free and open to any qualifying student living in El Paso County.
