El Paso Independent School District is ready to break ground on a new future for the Burges Mustangs on Tuesday.

District officials will mark the beginning of a major construction and renovation project at the East El Paso campus as part of their voter-approved 2016 Bond modernization program.

The $57.8-million project at Burges includes a new classroom wing, new administrative offices, new black box theater, new fine-arts classrooms, renovations to existing Building A and Building D, courtyard renovations, a new softball field and repairs to the existing sewer line.

The project also includes work that was already completed, including a replacement of the football field and running track.

The construction and renovation project will be complete by the fall of 2021. The project design at Burges was completed by MNK Architects with DLR Group and general contractor Banes General Contractor.

Construction on other bond projects at Crocket Elementary, El Paso, Irvin, Austin, and El Paso High Schools, the new Torres Elementary School, and the new Don Haskins, Bobby Joe Hill, and Josefina Tinajero PK-8 Schools is already underway.
