E.P.I.S.D. gives update on $668M bond projects

News

From new school buses and state-of-the-art playgrounds, to MacBook Airs for middle schoolers, the historic $668 million bond for E.P.I.S.D. is turning into major upgrades across the district.

“There’s a lot of planning, engineering, design work that has to take place,” said Carlos Gallinar, Executive Director Planning and Innovative Schools Construction of EPISD.

All 17 major projects are currently in the design process.

“We’re excited to see some of the work start take place after all the efforts,” said Al Velarde, EPISD Trustee for District 2.

On track for 2018 is major construction.

The goal is to modernize schools district-wide.

“Every high school that has a bond project has a school project community that helps formulate ideas, design, and things that will go into the new construction, buildings,” said Gallinar.

The district said the projects in the bond are expected to finish within five years.
