Deadly accident in Chaparral

News

An 18-year-old has died after an accident occurred in the 400 block of Mesilla View Dr. in Chaparral , NM on Friday at 2:00 a.m.

Authorities say Juan Solis’ body was found underneath the car he was driving. Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the accident.

Solis’ mother Perla Leyva says he wish her son would have thought twice before getting behind the wheel.

“These are the consequences.. it was easy for him to do this… but for us who have to live in this moment and it’s so hard,” Leyva says.

According to Solis’ girlfriend, Melanie Castañeda, Solis took the car after they got into an argument.  Castañeda says she tried to stop him by jumping on the hood of the car, but Castañeda was thrown off. Solis kept driving and  lost control of the car. Castañeda said that she and Solis each had four to five beers that night, but did not drink any liquor.

Solis’ family set up a GoFund me account to help cover burial costs. The GoFund me account can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/53trg73g#_=_
