El Paso County says that they will allow the sale and possession of fireworks in unincorporated areas of the County over the Fourth of July holiday due to favorable drought conditions.

The County banned fireworks for five years, between 2011 and 2015 due to increased fire danger because of severe drought conditions. However, the past two years the County has not met the threshold required to regulate fireworks in unincorporated areas of the County.

Citizens in El Paso will be able to purchase fireworks from June 24 through midnight on July 4. Fireworks are still banned within the City of El Paso and the County has been working with law enforcement agencies to prevent fires and unnecessary safety risks to the public and property owners in outlying areas where fireworks are commonly used.

ROAD CLOSURES:

To help ensure the safety of residents in the areas of Montana Vista, America’s Estates 1 and Homestead Meadows, the El Paso County Commissioners Court has authorized certain streets to be closed to help keep congestion from overwhelming residential areas. Determining street closures was done in collaboration with Neighborhood Association leadership and the El Paso County Sheriff’s office. These street closures include:

Homestead Meadows

  • Flager at Tangerine

Montana Vista

  • Vista Del Este at Marvin Ln
  • Krag St at Marvin Ln

America’s Estates 1

  • Stansbury at Colonial Bluff
  • Paseo Del Este

CLEANUP EFFORTS ON JULY 5th

We urge the public to use caution when traveling along Montana Ave given the heavy congestion and use of fireworks. We ask that individuals please pick up after themselves given there has historically been a large amount a trash left behind for residents in the area. El Paso County in collaboration with the Adult Probation Department and Sheriff’s office will be cleaning the area of left over debris on the morning of July 5th.
