EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Apple said it’s disabling and tracking iPhones that were stolen during the ongoing nationwide protests.

The company said some of its stores were ransacked and several iPhones were stolen. Apple said messages will pop up on the stolen phones telling the thieves that the devices are being tracked and authorities would be alerted.

Apple had the software to track stolen iPhones before the protests.

However, that software does not come on purchased phones.
