A year after son’s murder, woman pleads for justice

News

Exactly one year after her son’s unsolved murder, one El Paso woman is still holding on to hope that someone will take responsibility.

On August 17, 2016, 26-year-old Devon Leatherbury was found dead in the Northeast El Paso desert with a gunshot wound to his head.

El Paso police declared his death a homicide, but have yet to solve the case.

Today, a group of people joined Jenette Vargas to remember her son’s life and support her in her tireless effort to find answers.

While Vargas still searches, however, she has a message for those behind her son’s murder:

“I’m at peace now, and I’m here and I’m going to publicly forgive them for what they’ve done so I can begin to heal.”

Leatherbury’s unsolved murder is Crime Stoppers of El Paso’s Crime of the Week.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 566-8477.
