There is no playbook for what Franklin is going through right now. The Cougars’ hearts are heavy this week after senior standout James McClain-Green was left in serious condition following a car crash Saturday night.
Franklin also has a big playoff game to get ready for this Friday. Monday, they took the first step towards healing, as they got back on the practice field.
“When he’s in this situation, the football becomes secondary,” head coach Daren Walker said. “It’ss about his health and about his well being and so the kids are that way.”
The Cougars got great news before Monday’s practice; McClain-Green is awake, alert and his healthy has immensely improved since Saturday.
“We’re just thrilled that he’s got a chance to fight. He’s got a long road, we know that; but, he’s got a road,” Walker said.
He’s got a road, so Franklin took the field on Monday to continue its road. The Cougars play Trinity Euless in the Area playoffs Friday at 1 pm MT in Midland. They know number 5 would want them to be ready.
“We’re still focused on the game,” junior cornerback Ethan Bustillos said. “James would want us to focus on the game and give him our best so that we can play well.”
