$2,000 in illegal fireworks confiscated in Las Cruces

Las Cruces fire, police, and code enforcement officers confiscated thousands in illegal fireworks during a 16-day period, according to a news release.

Police say that from June 20 through July 6, an estimated $2,000 in illegal fireworks were seized, which includes aerial spinners, helicopters, rockets, and others.

156 fireworks-related calls were also reported, 129 of which were received between July 1-4.

According to police, there were five brush fires, two dumpster fires, and two tree fires that may have been caused by fireworks.

The confiscated fireworks will be turned over for destruction by the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad.
