2 killed in plane crash near Las Cruces airport

New Mexico State Police have identified the two men killed in a plane crash near Las Cruces Thursday night.

According to a news release, El Pasoan David Glenn Hancock, 67, and Morris Douglas Newton, 77, of Las Cruces were found dead at the scene.

As KTSM previously reported, the crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. about four miles northeast of the Las Cruces airport, according to police.

Officials are still working to figure out what caused the fixed-wing, single-engine Cessna airplane to crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration will begin investigating the crash Friday; check back with KTSM for updates.
