ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – Alamogordo police say they arrested a 12-year-old girl drinking and driving during a joyride in the family car.

Police followed her car from Walker Avenue and say she drove east on U.S. Highway 70 where authorities say she drove through a dirt lot and nearly struck an Otero County’s Sheriff’s deputy. The car spun out of control shortly after on U.S. Highway 54, hitting a speed limit sign.

Authorities did not report any injuries. Police say the girl was with three other kids, all of them allegedly admitted to drinking.

According to the Alamogordo Daily News, the girl who was driving has been referred to Juvenile Probation and Parole for DWI and reckless driving.
