12 dead, 3 injured in south Texas church bus crash

Emergency responders are on the scene of a major bus crash involving multiple fatalities near San Antonio.

According to WOAI, a church bus with older passengers collided head-on with a pickup near Garner State Park on Highway 83.

According to KXAN, DPS says 12 people were killed and three injured in the accident.

First Baptist Church New Braunfels posted to Facebook about the accident involving their bus.

The church also stated the bus was returning from a three-day retreat at Alto Frio Baptist Encampent.

Governor Gregg Abbott released a statement on the crash Wednesday evening.

“Cecilia and I extend our deepest condolences to the victims and the families of those involved in today’s tragic event. We are saddened by the loss of life and our hearts go out to all those affected. We thank the first responders working on the scene in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, and ask that all Texans join us in offering their thoughts and prayers.”
