SISD names interim superintendent

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Socorro Independent School District named Marta Carmona as the district’s interim superintendent on Tuesday.

Carmona will hold the position after Jose Espinoza resigned earlier this month. She is the internal auditor for the school district.

SISD School Board President David Morales said Carmona was the best candidate out of various local applicants.

“The fact that she’s in-house, she’s been here, she’s very much aware of what’s been transpiring,” Morales said.

The final approval of Carmona’s employment agreement will come back to the board in an additional meeting. Morales said she would most likely continue in her position as interim superintendent into the new school year as the board continues the search for a permanent candidate.

As KTSM previously reported, as part of the separation agreement, Espinoza received a total of $629,308.
