A man wanted on child sex abuse charges out of Las Cruces was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol Thursday morning after agents were able to help LCPD determine his true identity.
Jose Roberto Chavez, 35, was stopped by LCPD for a traffic violation Thursday morning where he allegedly was unable to provide any identifying information.
U.S. Border Patrol agents were called in to assist and transported Chavez to the Las Cruces Border Patrol station where a fingerprint helped identify him.
Immigration and criminal databases showed that Chavez was a Mexican national who had prior immigration history along with a warrant out of Las Cruces for criminal sexual penetration of a minor.
Chavez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center pending federal criminal proceedings. After his federal immigration proceedings have ended, he will face extradition to Doña Ana County for prosecution on the penetration of a child charges.
