Skeletal remains were found in the desert west of Sunland Park on Tuesday, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The human remains were found before 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Los Pinos Court. the University of New Mexico Office of the Medical Examiner is also responding to the scene.
“A Sunland Park man told detectives he was walking in the area with his family on New Year’s Day when the saw what appeared to be a human skull and bones,” a news release said.
It is too early to tell how long the remains have been in the desert or if they belong to a man or woman.
