New Mexico State Police said a 24-year-old man from White Sands was killed Saturday night when the motorcycle he was operating sideswiped a car near Organ, NM.

Ronald Vanzant, 24, of White Sands was driving a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle east on US Highway 70 near Organ when he sideswiped a Ford Fusion.

The impact forced Vanzant to lose control of his motorcycle, he eventually came to rest on the eastbound lanes of Bataan Memorial Highway. Vanzant was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

NMSP investigators say Vanzant was wearing a helmet and excessive speed does appear to be a factor.
