Man injured in Las Cruces motel shooting, another arrested

Las Cruces police are investigating a late-morning shooting that sent a 24-year-old man to the hospital and left another man in custody.

About 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, police were dispatched to the report of shots fired at the Kilby Motel, 1045 S. Main St. Officers arrived to find the 24-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center. He has since been taken to University Medical Center of El Paso in critical but stable condition.

Officers searched the area for the suspect and, after several minutes, located the 46-year-old man believed to be responsible for the shooting in a nearby storage building. He was taken into custody with assistance from a K-9 unit.

No charges have been filed at this time as investigators are looking into the circumstances that led to the shooting.
