Las Cruces police officers cleared after shooting, killing man in September

Las Cruces News

Four Las Cruces police officers have been cleared after shooting and killing a man near Las Cruces High School last September.

As KTSM previously reported, the incident happened on Sept. 27 after Juan Angel Pinedo, 32, led police on a pursuit.

Lapel video shows Pinedo failing to obey the officers’ multiple commands before lunging toward a handgun.

According to a news release, all four officers then fired at Pinedo. He died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office concluded that the oficers’ use of force was justified and no action will be taken against them.

The officers, Nathan Krause, Manuel Frias, Keegan Arbogast, and Sgt. Tate McBride, were placed on administrative duty and have since returned to regular duty.

The shooting was investigated by the Officer-involved Incident Task Force which includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.
