Las Cruces police: Man may have been shot while breaking into vehicle

Las Cruces police are investigating a possible shooting that was reported Monday morning.

According to a news release, officers responded at about 6 a.m. to a shots fired call at the 1500 block of Colorado Ave. 

There, a man told police that he confronted someone who was reportedly breaking into his vehicle, and later 

He then fired several rounds into the air.

According to the release, police learned of a gunshot victim at Mountainview Regional Medical Center about 15 minutes later.

The victim, whose injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, initially told officers that he was shot in the village of Dona Ana.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the two incidents are related. No charges have been filed.
