A Las Cruces man allegedly used a handgun to rob his neighbor and steal his cell phone on Wednesday evening, police said.

Luis Eduardo Robles, 36, is accused of committing an armed robbery in the 4600 block of Big Springs Street, the Las Cruces Police Department said in a news release.

A neighbor of Robles was driving home when he saw Robles waving a flashlight in his direction. Before the man got out of the car, Robles approached him and the two began talking. Robles then allegedly pulled out a gun and ordered the man to hand over his cell phone, the release said.

Once Robles left with the phone, the neighbor obtained another phone and called police.

Officers then found Robles walking out of an undeveloped area nearby. They arrested him and booked him into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond, the release said.
