Large fire breaks out in Organ Mountains

UPDATE: 

Viewers report that by 11 a.m. Sunday morning, the fire was mostly out on the Organ Mountains and only some smoke remained. 

According to the Bureau of Land Management, the blaze reached 45 acres of the Baylor Canyon, but wasn’t a threat to people or homes.

Officials say the fire was human-caused, but didn’t release any details.

The fire remains under investigation.

EARLIER: 

A large fire has broken out in the Organ Mountains near Las Cruces Saturday evening.

Residents tell KTSM it’s been burning for several hours now, making the air hazy for miles.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
