Dona Ana County Judge denies prosector’s motion to keep Tai Chan in Custody

Las Cruces News

A Dona Ana County judge has denied District Attorney Mark D’Antonio’s motion to keep former Santa Fe Sheriff’s Deputy Tai Chan in custody.

Chan is awaiting a third trial for shooting and killing deputy Jeremy Martin in 2014 inside a Las Cruces hotel. The former deputy turned himself in over the weekend.

KTSM first reported D’Antonio again filed voluntary manslaughter charges against Chan.

Chan could possibly be released before Thanksgiving.
