Arcade bar set to take over historic JCPenney building in Las Cruces

Las Cruces News

A new arcade bar and restaurant will soon be opening in the historic JC Penney building in Las Cruces. It may be an 80’s theme, but the owners are hoping the bar will be here to stay.

The new Retrocade Bar ‘RAD’ hasn’t exactly opened yet, but it’s already getting the community’s attention. The owners are ready to give its guests a major throwback experience with classic characters you might recognize, arcade games and a Back to the Future themed kitchen.

Owner Alex Macias says he got the idea from the vintage game pieces he’s collected for years, eventually turning his own garage into an arcade.

“We started throwing 80’s parties and showing the music videos on projectors. People would play the arcade games and had a blast and they all said I should open a bar and that’s how it all came about,” Macias said.

In addition to the more than 50 arcade games and pinball machines, “RAD” will also feature a second bar on its top floor that will change themes periodically. The bar is set to open in about a month and they’re located next to the historic Rio Grande Theater in Las Cruces at 201 N. Main Street.
