EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The El Paso Police Department says a 69-year-old man died in a crash in East El Paso on Monday night.

Police say Francisco Garcia died after being ejected from his vehicle during a collision on Loop 375 near the Iron Medics exit. Investigators say a 42-year-old man driving a 2006 Cadillac DTS was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed headed north when he swerved into Garcia’s lane.

Garcia, who was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang, traveled down an embankment and rollled-over after the Mustang rear-ended his vehicle.

Fire medical services arrived on the scene and took the 42-year-old man to the hospital to treat serious injuries. Garcia died on the scene.

Special traffic investigations unit is continuing its investigation into the collision. Authorities suspect speed and alcohol to be contributing factors in the crash.

Police have not announced charges or arrests in the collision.

The incident is the 46th fatality of the year compared to 50 at this time last year.
