Friday night’s matchup between Ysleta and Parkland was full of excitement, as both teams entered the game with undefeated records.
However, it wasn’t football that made the night extra special.
World War II veteran Bobby Pierce Long, 92, left Ysleta High School in 1944 to enlist in the Army.
After years of serving our country, Long finally fulfilled his goal of receiving his high school diploma on Friday.

“I’m really happy about it,” Long told KTSM. “It’s been a long time.”
