What you need to know before shipping your holiday gifts

El Paso News

Two billion pieces of mail are expected to go through the United States Post Service next week. December 17 is expected to be the busiest day of the year at the post office.

The postmaster of El Paso said more than 40 clerks and carriers were hired just for this season and customers have other options like using the 24-hour self service kiosk.

When shipping out packages, make sure the box is clean from markings. Extra markings like battery warnings or hazardous materials can cause delays.

A common mistake postal workers see is the address not completely filled out.

“Not having the complete city state and zip is the first indicator of a problem. And not having a return address so that if something happens with the mail piece we know where to get it back home,” said Douglas Watson. He is the Postmaster of El Paso.

If you haven’t sent out your Christmas packages, you may want to do so within the coming days.
