Vintage Vixen Dolls give back to those in need

El Paso News

They were founded less than a year ago, but already they are making a difference in the lives of many. Although they enjoy dressing up in vintage attire, they say they are not models, but more like model citizens

Every first Sunday of the month the Vintage Vixen Dolls walk the streets of El Paso and hand out sack lunches.

“We have done sandwiches and like a chip bag, before we made breakfast burritos we just want to keep bringing back for those who are less fortunate and need something to eat,” says the founder of the group Monette Alvarez.

The group was founded in March 2016. Using their own funds, they buy food, prepare it and then they give it out to those who are homeless.

“I really feel like i don’t make that much of a difference but when we get together and we actually do these things, i sit back and say hey you know what we actually put a smile on someone’s face.. so it feels good,” says Bella Bravo, who’s a member of the group.

Alvarez  says that some of the members of the group have experienced hardships. She says they lend a helping hand because it doesn’t hurt to give back.

“Some of us were homeless, some of us have been battered, we are battered women some of us have been hungry, so we all came together because we have a passion to give back to our community,” Alvarez says.

Not only does the non-profit group donate their time and money, but they are also women striving to empower other women.

“We embrace everybody, whether you like to spike up your hair or shave your head, it’s like all women are welcome to join our group,” says member Laura Jacquez.

Although they are only six members big at the moment, they hope to expand their group and continue giving back to those who need it. “Hey give back, give back to the community. you can do it too, if  we can do it, you can do it too,” Bravo concluded.

The Vintage Vixen Dolls are looking for donations of any type, including money, food and clothing. The group is also selling raffle tickets to help raise funds to purchase food for the community.

Anyone interested in joining the group can find more information at their next meeting, which will be September 18. For more info, contact Vintage Vixen Dolls via social media or email vvdelpaso@gmail.com.
