Two brothers find permanent home in time for the holidays

During National Adoption Day on Saturday, 93 children and their El Paso families will be celebrating adoptions that some have been waiting years for.

The brothers, Isaiah and Angelo, will continue living with the Holguins as they’ve done so for the past year. However starting Saturday, something will be a little different.

“I’m so excited. I’m over the moon. I just can’t wait until it’s officially on paper. They’ll be my kids,” said Francisca Holguin.

“I think it’s great having the kids finally be part of the family. Finally being part of us. So we’re super excited,” said Griselda Holguin.

It’s been three years since Francisca and Griselda Holguin have been hoping to adopt. The process has not been easy.

“It’s a hard process. There is a lot of heartache. There is a lot of joy. There are so many kids out there that need homes that I think everybody should take that step if they can,” said F. Holguin.

When they meet Isaiah and Angelo, they knew they wanted to make them part of the family.

“You just can’t help it. As soon as they come into your home, you fall in love with them and that’s the first thing you think about,” said G. Holguin.

This year, the National Adoption Day Celebration at the El Paso County Courthouse will be themed “Superhero Families.”

“I think the kids are superheroes everyday. They go through a lot of processes to be able to find a home. So they are the superheroes,” said G. Holguin.

During the celebration, child advocates and county staff will dress up as superheroes to celebrate the children.

“Because our kids are heroes. They help us everyday learn something different. They teach us how to grow and I think they really are the heroes out of the whole situation,” said F. Holguin.

According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Service, there are more than 7,000 children in state care who were awaiting adoption as of September 2018

National Adoption Day is set for Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 10 a.m. to noon. It will be held at the El Paso County Courthouse in the 65th Judicial District Courthouse.
