Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Stolen Gun

An afternoon traffic stop resulted in the discovery of a stolen pistol and 3.46 grams of meth.

According to El Paso Police, Gang Suppression officers saw 39-year-old Tommy Smith speeding through a school zone on Resler. A traffic stop was conducted and that’s when officers found Smith to be in possession of a semi-automatic pistol that was reported stolen. Smith also reportedly had meth inside the car.

The Gang Unit was called to assist with the investigation.

Smith was booked into the El Paso County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm by felon, possession of controlled substance and theft a firearm.  Bonds total $50,000.
