It’s graduation weekend for thousands of El Pasoans and it’s also a weekend for major construction and road closures. If you plan on heading across town, leave with plenty of time and patience.
Eastside residents should plan for the complete closure of parts of two major streets for El Paso Electric work overnight on Friday and Saturday. The northbound lanes on Zaragoza will be closed at Saul Kleinfeld as will the eastbound lanes of Montwood at Firehouse Drive.
The westbound lanes of Montwood will be shut down at Joe Battle and southbound lanes of Joe Battle is closed at Montwood.
El Paso Electric crews will be moving power poles and installing wiring along Montwood and Zaragoza. The work will happen between 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., but motorists should still expect delays.
As part of the Go-10 Project in West El Paso, TxDot will once again shut down I-10 in both directions between the Sunland Park exit and entrance ramps. Sunland Park will also be closed in both directions from Mesa Hills to Paisano.
This is the second consecutive week of the closure which is expected to last 57-hours beginning at 9 p.m. Friday night.
If you are planning on attending graduation at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center or have family coming in front out of town, make sure you let them know to leave with plenty of time to spare.
TxDot will begin a three-month closure of the Diana underpass on Tuesday, May 15. Although it won’t begin this weekend, motorists should plan ahead for the prolonged closure. Gateway South Diana to Hondo Pass will be officially closed at 9 p.m. Monday night so crews can begin preparing for the roadwork.
Drivers can use gateways and turnarounds at Transmountain and Hondo Pass.
