SWAT situation in Northeast El Paso neighborhood over

UPDATE: El Paso police say as of 4 p.m., the SWAT situation is over. We’re awaiting more information and will bring it to you as soon as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Magoffin Middle School and Lee Elementary School are on “lockout” due to the SWAT situation on Howard, an EPISD spokesman said.

The incident began at 3:30 a.m. but as the SWAT situation continued into the school hours, the schools were placed on “lockout.” That means class continues but no one can go on campus and EPISD PD will be on campus. 

ORIGINAL: The El Paso Police Department’s SWAT team is at the scene of shots fired near the 7500 block of Howard in Northeast El Paso.

The neighborhood is just off U.S. 54 at the Dyer/Hercules exit ramp.

Police were called out at about 3:30 a.m. after the shots fired call.

Police have several roads, including Vulcan, Clio and Apollo, blocked off for safety purposes. 

“Residents in the area are asked to use caution at this time as officers work this call,” police said in an alert.
