Susie Byrd is resigning as a member of the El Paso Independent School Board to take up a position with U.S. Rep.-elect Veronica Escobar.
Byrd sent a letter to her fellow EPISD trustees on Thursday, informing them of her resignation, effective on Jan. 2. She also provided a copy of the letter to KTSM.
The El Paso Times reported that Byrd will work for Escboar, who was elected this past November to replace U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke.
In the letter, Byrd said the decision became an easier one to make because of the “increasing challenge that I have had getting questions answered and concerns addressed.”
The letter also stated she cannot serve as a board member until an election and asked that the board appoint someone to fill the seat.
Byrd was elected to the EPISD school board in 2013. Prior to that she served as a member of the El Paso City Council.
