El Pasoans can now “get away” to San Diego and San Jose more often.
Southwest Airlines will offer more flights from El Paso International Airport to Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport and San Diego International Airport beginning in January 2019.
Service to San Jose was scheduled to start in April, but it has been moved up a few months. It will start in January with one flight on Sunday’s and increase to two flights in April, according to a city news release.
There is currently one flight on Sunday’s to San Diego. It will increase to one a day and two on Sunday in January, the release said.
The announcement was made during Tuesday’s El Paso City Council meeting.
“These incremental additions to El Paso International Airport’s flights are accomplishments towards the goal for growing the core business of air transportation,” said Monica Lombraña, City of El Paso’s Managing Director of Aviation and International Bridges, in the release. “With each increase in frequency to our non-stop destinations, we have the opportunity to show our airline partners that enhancing our air service is a great opportunity and investment in our region.”
