Update: Police ID man killed in Northeast El Paso shooting, ID suspect

El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department on Monday afternoon identified the person killed in a shooting in the Northeast early Sunday.

According to EPPD, 32-year-old Anthony Martin died at the scene of the shooting, which happened at around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning at the 5000 block of Fairbanks.

After an investigation by detectives with EPPD’s Crimes Against Persons unit, a murder warrant was issued for 31-year-old Grant Rutledge, who was taken into custody on Monday morning at a residence in the 3500 block of Keltner.

Rutledge will be booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $1 million bond.

A suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday morning in Northeast El Paso has been arrested, according to the El Paso Police Department.

A warrant for murder was obtained for the shooter, who was taken into custody on Monday morning at a residence in the 3500 block of Keltner.

At around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, EPPD’s Crimes Against Persons unit responded to the 5000 block of Fairbanks, near the intersection of Fairbanks Dr. and Girl Scout Way.

After a brief pursuit, one person was taken into custody on Sunday by responding units. The person was charged with evading in motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.

One person was killed in the shooting. This is the first homicide of 2021.

Police have not released the victim’s identity.
