Police identify child involved in Lower Valley hit-and-run

El Paso Police have identified the 4-year-old injured in Sunday afternoon’s hit-and-run crash in the Lower Valley as Jace Contreras. Police continue to search for the driver who fled the scene.

According to police, Conteras ran into the street toward an ice cream truck in the 9400 block of Ariel Rico just before 4 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses say a dark colored SUV driven by a Hispanic male struck Contreras and continued driving. The driver was last seen driving north on Burgundy Drive.

Contreas was taken to University Medical Center where he is being treated for serious injuries, at last update he was in serious but stable condition. 

Anyone with information on the driver of the SUV involved in the crash is asked to contact El Paso Police STI Unit at (915) 832-4000. You may also contact Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-8477 to remain anonymous.
