El Paso Police say a crash in Central El Paso claimed the life of 22-year-old Montana Joe Stevens on Wednesday.

According to EPPD, 46-year-old Luis Pedro Garcia was driving a 2012 Dodge Caravan westbound on Aurora Avenue with Stevens as his passenger at approximately 5:32 p.m. Garcia approached the intersection of Alabama St. when a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by 40-year-old Paul Ferris was heading north.

Garcia ran a stop sign and crashed into Ferris’ car, forcing debris into a 2017 Ford Fusion driving north in the next lane, driven by 58-year-old Andrea Baca. The Dodge Caravan then continued into a parking lot, rolling over and hitting four unoccupied parked vehicles before stopping on a rock wall.

Both Garcia and Montana were taken to a local hospital for severe injuries. Garcia is still being treated for his injuries, however, Montana died as a result of the injuries. According to police, the crash is still being investigated, and speed, as well as alcohol, are suspected to be contributing factors.
