El Paso Police say a pedestrian who was struck near Fox Plaza late Friday night has died.

Manuel Castillo, 52, was crossing the 5300 block of Paisano around 9:50 p.m. Friday night when he was hit by a 2014 Ford Explorer driven by Ramiro Diaz, 55.

Castillo suffered serious injuries at the scene and was transported to University Medical Center where he died on Saturday.

Special Traffic Investigators say Diaz stayed at the scene of the crash and was cooperative with investigators. They’ve identified failure to use a crosswalk as a contributing factor in the crash.

This is the 22nd traffic death of 2018 compared to 20 during this time in 2017. This was also the second deadly traffic death this weekend.
