UPDATE: A 76-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Tuesday night in Northeast El Paso.

Guillermo Rivera was killed in the accident, which happened at about 8 p.m. Tuesday night at Rushing and Wadsworth, near Veterans Park.

A police news release said a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Sylvia Berge, 57, was going north on Rushing when it hit Rivera, who was not crossing at an intersection or crosswalk. The area was not well lit and the man was wearing dark clothing police said.

Police reminded El Paso residents to be aware of traffic laws.

“Pedestrians should cross at intersections and only when permitted by ‘walk’ signs or a green light and do not take for granted that drivers see them and will yield,” police said in a news relese. “Alternatively, use crosswalks and motorists should yield the right of way but right of way should not be taken for granted.”
