NMSU’s officially-licensed beer is becoming a best selling ale at restaurants.
New Mexico State is one a few universities across the country to have an officially-licensed beer and it’s a beer that’s been winning the hearts of many.
The Pistol Pete’s 1888 Ale was launched less than two years ago. Since then, the can design has won an award for at an international marketing competition. The can featuring the Aggie fight song and the school colors.
The ale has also won a bronze medal against more than a hundred beers during the Great American Beer Festival.
Just like with the sale of NMSU clothing, with every sale of a Pistol Pete’s 1988 Ale, a portion goes back to NMSU athletic programs.
“The nice thing about a consumable whether it’s a food product or a beverage product, You know you’re constantly buying or drinking a beer and you’re buying more of those. So the potential for revenue is higher than lets say a t-shirt or a polo,” said Mario Moccia, NMSU DIrector of Athletics.
The beer is made at Bosque Brewing which is owned by NMSU Alumni. Managers at the Las Cruces location told KTSM it’s one of the most popular beers ordered.
The beer is sold at NMSU games as well as New Mexico restaurants and grocery stores.
