A California woman was killed and a two-year-old was hospitalized Monday morning after their car was rear-ended by another driver on I-10 between Fort Hancock and Sierra Blanca.
Rosa Maria Portillo Colindres, 21, was killed at about 5:30 a.m. while traveling east on I-10 near Mile Marked 88. She was driving a 1996 Lexus with a two-year-old girl as a passenger, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.
A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck rear-ended the Lexus in the right lane, causing it to spin off the road. The Silverado was being driven by Jasper Tae Klein, 20, from Marfa. He was treated and released, according to the release.
Portillo Colindres was wearing a seatbelt, but was still killed by the impact.
The investigation determined that the weather was clear and the road conditions were dry.
No other details on the crash were released by DPS.
