Man who allegedly ran over El Paso DJ reportedly sent text admitting it

El Paso News

The man who allegedly struck an El Paso DJ with a truck and then fled the scene, sent a friend a text message admitting to it, according to court documents.

Police arrested Pedro Manuel Reyes last week on suspicion of an accident involving serious bodily injury in connection with a hit-and-run accident that put Christian Swift Ortiz, known as DJ Swift, in the hospital.

Swift was injured on Aug. 5 in an alley in the 800 block of Piedras between Dewey’s Corner Pub and Good Coffee Mexican Restaurant.

A complaint affidavit says that officers were able to track down Reyes after the co-owner Dewey’s told them the truck caught on camera was owned by V&E Customs. When officers arrived at the business, Reyes told them his lawyer had advised him to turn himself in, the affidavit said.

Reyes also cooperated by taking the truck in question to the El Paso Municipal Vehicle Storage Facility, the affidavit said.

Police later obtained a search warrant for the truck and Reyes’ phone and found a text message where he told a person he drove the truck during the accident but blamed Swift for the accident, the affidavit said.
