Tuesday night, the Don Haskins had many empty seats for the I-10 rival game between the UTEP men’s basketball team and New Mexico State. One local fan, Maynard Haddad has a permanent seat at the Don and at outside of the H and H Car Wash.
“I tell you what, before the year is over, he’s going to have those guys playing and all the negatives are going to stop”, says Haddad.
That “he” he’s reffering to is Coach Tim Floyd. Haddad, is a longtime booster of the Miner team. He decorates the car wash with Miner memorabilia that dates back decades.
Floyd has been taking heat for not getting into the NCAA Tournament the last six years, losing key players in the last month and now, a two and six start. Some fans what Floyd fired but Haddad isn’t one of them.
UTEP announced a crowd of 6,800 Tuesday night, the arena holds twice that amount. If non-attendance is the way fans are showing how they feel, Haddad says they’re doing it all wrong.
