Investigators say arson was cause of Sunland Park fire that killed 8-year-old girl

Community members who live off Mesquite Drive in Sunland Park, New Mexico are gathering together to show their support after the death of an 8 year old girl from a house fire. Investigators suspect arson being the cause.
“The whole block, the whole neighborhood, we’re all supportive because nobody would want to have this kind of scenario during the holidays,” Neighbor Robert Martinez shared, “The fact that we lost a little girl is so heartbreaking and devastating.”
The New Mexico Fire Marshall now says last Thursday’s fire was arson however the cause of 8 year old Marisa Munoz death is still unknown. Two other children, Julian Duran and Jasmine Valenzuela, are currently at a burn center in Lubbock in critical condition. The community in the area showed their support for the family with a memorial outside of what’s left of the home, and some donated items.
“As far as us, my parents, my sisters, my brothers.. we all donated through Facebook and actually donated some clothes and diapers for the babies,” Martinez said.
Through thick and thin, neighbors told KTSM they’ve always been and always will be a tight-knit community. 
“We have their back and I’m very sure that they’re very grateful that we’re doing all this for them,” Martinez shared.
